RE: going from dish to direct

It's sad that they refuse to give you what any cable co. would give you without hesitation.
I also got calls from Direct days after I cancelled. Everything they wanted 100's of dollars for was now free. I asked them why they didn't give me this offer when I called, which I called back 4 times trying to get different people. I even told the last person that they would call me within 5 days offering everything for free and they still refused.
Well 5 days later they called and offered me everything for free, while the Dish guys were there installing the new system.
The Dish boxes and remotes are so superior I don't mind the check switch. I only have to do it once after I get my signal , so it's not a big deal.

RE: Yellowstone trip stats

Super trip. How crowded was Yellowstone? Glad you enjoyed it. Ouch on the fuel price.
We just got back from Yellowstone this month.. I wish I had that fuel bill..
Total trip 7400 miles. Fuel bill $3653.00. Cost per mile 49 cents.
Fun-o-meter 10plus.

Choke the camper wheels. Back the truck up a tad , set the parking brake and you'll always get out.

RE: going from dish to direct

I did not have a problem with dish except the did not treat old customers very good when it came to upgrades, they wanted me to pay for all new receivers and Direct gave me everything including a hd dvr and more progaming less money and nfl ticket. Most all of my reading says Direct is better. We will see, thanks!
That's funny. That's how I ended up with Dish. Went to upgrade to HD with Direct and they wanted oodles of money. Dish gave me everything for free.
I think the way the companies operate we'll have to jump back and forth to get the free upgrades.

RE: going from dish to direct

I went from Direct to Dish and wouldn't go back. I have one 3LNB dish. They have much better boxes.
IT's nice to need only one box for the whole RV. Much less wiring with Dish vs direct.
I like that Dish's remotes are RF vs Direct's IR remotes.
Don't have a problem hitting Dish's satellites. I take my HD with me.

RE: Yellowstone Camping

. On the map everything looks close, but with the two lane roads and everyone stopping to look at the wildlife it takes much longer than expected to get anywhere in the park. !
Fishing bridge is only closer to less then HALF of the park. West Yellowstone is closer to the other HALF. People who think Fishing bridge is "closer" haven't mapped out the mileage.
Fishing bridge is farther to Old Faithful then West yellowstone. Same goes for Mammoth, etc. etc...

RE: Mac Software Question!

Wouldn't the freebie OpenOffice suite be best?
Works great for Windows and says it works on those Mac things! :W
Dave
Best? Nope. Neo Office is the ported version of Open office for Macs. Located here. Many people don't have X11(needed to use open office) installed on their computers. It's on the install disc.
For the OP You can get MicroSoft Office for Mac. Use her student discount. That's if she really needs/wants Office. The "sales person" is WRONG.
If it's just for her so she can do her reports etc.. Then iWork will work just fine for her. It has a word processor(Pages), spread sheets(Numbers), and presentations(Keynote). Plus, it's cheaper then office.

RE: Yellowstone Camping

Mammoth is also a dry camping spot in Yellowstone. Nice campground and generators are allowed. They are first come first serve. Nice campground. Roomy campsites.

RE: Best Route from Yellowstone??

:h
How does the OP get from Yellowstone to Cody without taking a 2-lane mountain road? The road out Yellowstone's east gate is a nail-biter for those nervous about mountain driving.
It is? They must have added some hills. That is an easy drive. You must be thinking past Cody when you get into the Bighorns.

RE: Yellowstone Camping

Fishing bridge is horrible. Go to West Yellowstone and stay at Grizzly. It's just as close to the attractions and closer to some of the bigger ones.
Fishing bridge has us packed in like sardines. Couldn't open one slide and about 12" from the camper in the back. Then of course there were the all too common black outs. If people in your loop use too much it blacks out the camp and there is no one on duty to reset it.

It's hit or miss. We just got back from there. You can go from 5 bars to 1 in a matter of a few feet.

RE: Heads UP !! .... computer info

STOP !! ...
PLEASE .... before this goes any farther.... and the mod has to close the thread..
This is about my friend and his computer... it is NOT about PC vs Mac....
You want a Mac, thats fine... we don't happen to like them...
So Please .. lets stay away from that never ending issue..
Thank you,
John
I thought it was about how to stop people fromm clicking the links. I said nothing derogatory about PCs. Your "Heads Up" to read before clicking links doesn't work with many elderly or non-compute savvy people and never worked for many of the people I know.
You posted your warning and I posted my solution for some, which works very well. If you found a different solution fine, don't try to silence the solutions others have found. It's a never ending issue.
Nothing is more frustrating then trying to talk someone through a problem over the phone and you hear click, click, click, click, right after you told them not to click anything.

RE: Bootable backup drive?

I clone the drive and can boot from it. Since it's a firewire drive you don't even notice you're booted to an external drive.

RE: Mac Help - Using iChat

The Aim program on the windows side is really bad , they had all kinds of video problems. With a lot of tinkering I get them working, but the people didn't like the features of Aim after using our ichat. We tried with a few people and decided to try other programs that would work better with windows.
When talking to windows people we have had better luck using something other then ichat to aim..
Sightspeed works well. OoVoo also worked good. Both have a Mac version.

For my older relatives I get them Macs. It was just too frustrating to go for a visit and have to spend hours cleaning out their computers. Now we can just visit.
No matter how many times I told them not to click on links in email, they still do.

RE: closet weight police

"forget axle weights" ....... on the contrary. GM as Dodge and Ford rates their trucks right up to max axle loads.
Just not true. My Ford is total combined axle weights is 13K. The truck is rated for 11,400lbs, by Ford..
Axles may be a generic product but GM expects them to be loaded to the max.
GM is rated, by GM even lower then the Fords.
My Dodge dealer uses max GAWRs for warranty work. Nothing new about that as its been that way even before the late '50s that I've used thse trucks.
That's your dealer and you're lucky. With current times and the problems with the current crop of diesel engines, there is no shortage of denied warranty claims from any of the big 3. Ford tried to deny my warranty , merely saying that I changed my own oil and used the wrong oil. No tests , no proof, no nothing. I then produced receipts on all my oil purchases/filters from Ford.
Get Towed in with a broken truck and triple axle 5th wheel that is overweight for the rating of the truck and there is a good chance that they will try to deny the warranty. They can merely say you overloaded the truck and you warranty is void. You can jump up and down all you want and say the 2500 is the same as the 3500 or I changed this or I changed that. They will point to sticker and say you exceeded any of the numbers and they are off the hook.

RE: Is the F250 enough truck?

The difference between the F250 and the F350 is about $300-$500...
IT's a no brainer to get the F350....
On the new trucks:
F250 GVWR 10k
F350 GVWR 11,400...
DId I say it's a no brainer to get the F350?
DO NOT EXCEED ANY OF FORD'S POSTED WEIGHT LIMITS. If you any kind of problems they will dump your warranty.

RE: closet weight police

In the years I've spent here I've learned a lot about how to calculate the weights when you tow.
Seems you learned nothing and wasted a lot of years.
I suggest you have the trailer weighed before purchase. You're dealing with hypothetical weights at this point. I have yet to see a trailer weigh what the brochure says or the pin at the brochure weight.
You're going to be over GVWR and GCVWR for a 2500. The truck was designed for the weight limits set by GM. Forget Axle weights, that for tickets. The truck was not designed to max out axle weights..
You're going to been a bigger truck, unless of course you have no care for the safety of your family and passengers. No reason to cheap out when safety is a concern.
I wanted a GMC real bad, but after playing the numbers it just wasn't in the cards. Their carrying capacity is poor. Their stated truck weights are way off.
Exceed the sticker weight limits and you could lose the warranty on your truck if any left(I'll leave out any legal ramifications any 1st year lawyer could bring forward).
Base your weights on your axles limits because you think those are the numbers that count and you could have any number of component failures on your truck. Axles are a generic product made for many different vehicles, that does not mean they could be loaded to the max.

RE: Sat/Wind

Your dish turned slightly on the pole or there was a branch/tree blowing in the path of the sat signal.
Happened to me in texas. Started to rain heavy, branches lowered and waved back and forth. Signal kept coming and going. Moved the dish and problem solved.
Had the dish staked to the ground in 20-40mph wind gusts and never lost a picture.
Wind can not block sat signal.
